Heart disease may not be a problem that stops at the heart. New guidelines from the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), developed with the European Renal Association (ERA), are urging doctors to pay much closer attention to kidney health in people with cardiovascular disease. The recommendations, published in the European Heart Journal and presented at ESC Congress 2026, are the first ESC guidelines specifically dedicated to managing cardiovascular disease (CVD) alongside chronic kidney disease (CKD).
