1. General
1.1 TooBrief (“TooBrief”, “We”, “Our”, “Us”) is committed to protecting information that personally identifies you (“Personal Information”). By using the TooBrief mobile application (“App”), you consent to the collection, storage, and handling of your Personal Information as described in this Privacy Policy.
1.2 This Privacy Policy applies to all users who access the App. Please read it carefully before using the App or submitting any Personal Information.
1.3 We take your privacy seriously and are committed to safeguarding your information while providing a useful, personalized news experience.
1.4 Access to the App is conditional on your acceptance of this Privacy Policy and our Terms & Conditions. Together they form our agreement with you regarding your use of the App.
2. Information Collected
2.1 Traffic Data
When you use the App, we automatically collect certain technical information, including:
- IP addresses and network information;
- Device type, operating system, and app version;
- Interaction data with the App (such as feed requests, article views, and search queries); and
- Crash and performance diagnostics (on release builds).
Firebase Analytics records app sessions and basic usage events. TooBrief also records reading actions and video startup or failure events to diagnose feed and playback reliability. These records are used for service operations.
2.2 Personal Information
TooBrief does not require an account to use the App in V1. If you choose to sign in with Google, we may receive:
- Your name, email address, and profile photo (as provided by Google);
- A unique account identifier for syncing preferences across devices; and
- Contact details you voluntarily provide when you email us.
We do not collect your phone number unless you provide it when contacting us.
2.3 Data Stored on Your Device
- Cached article headlines, summaries, images, and metadata (for offline reading);
- Your preferences: hidden categories, blocked publishers/keywords, saved articles, and text size settings.
Business API pilot requests
If you request pilot access on our website, we store your company name, business email, domain and intended use to review the application and contact you about it. Pilot access is manually approved. Customer-key records and usage counts support authentication, quota enforcement and service diagnostics.
YouTube playback
Video playback uses YouTube embeds. YouTube may process playback and device information and display advertising under its own privacy policy and terms. TooBrief does not independently download YouTube video streams or hide YouTube controls.
2.4 Third-Party Links
The App contains links to third-party publisher websites. When you tap “Open original source,” you leave TooBrief and are subject to that website’s privacy practices. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party privacy policies.
3. Usage of Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App and news feed;
- Personalize your experience (categories, blocked sources, saved articles);
- Sync settings if you sign in with Google;
- Diagnose crashes and fix technical issues (Firebase Crashlytics on release builds);
- Respond to your support, legal, or grievance requests; and
- Comply with applicable laws and enforce our Terms.
We do not sell your Personal Information. We do not use your data for third-party advertising targeting in V1.
4. Disclosure of Information
4.1 We do not rent or sell user information to third parties.
4.2 We may share information with trusted service providers who help us operate the App (such as cloud hosting, Firebase/Google for authentication, session analytics and crash reporting), subject to confidentiality obligations.
4.3 We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of TooBrief, our users, or the public.
4.4 In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the successor entity with the same privacy protections described here.
5. Security
5.1 We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect Personal Information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
5.2 No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5.3 If you believe your account or data has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@toobrief.com.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
6.1 Local app data is stored on your device until you clear app storage or uninstall the App.
6.2 Server-side data linked to your Google account (if you sign in) is retained while your account is active. Use the account deletion option in your app profile, or request deletion by emailing support@toobrief.com with the subject “Delete account” and your registered email address. See our Contact Us page.
Reading-action and session records remain until your linked account data is deleted or you request their removal. An automatic expiry period for TooBrief’s own usage records has not yet been set. Business pilot requests and customer usage records support application review, access control and diagnostics; contact us to request their removal.
6.3 Crash logs may be retained by Firebase for a limited period per Google’s policies.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA, UK, California, and India), you may have rights to:
- Access and receive a copy of Personal Information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate Personal Information;
- Request deletion of your account and associated data;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority where applicable.

GDPR / UK GDPR: Where we process personal data of people in the EU/EEA or UK, we do so under applicable law. Our website may use essential cookies to operate the service; optional analytics cookies are used only if you accept them via our consent banner.
CCPA / similar US state laws: We do not sell personal information. You may request access or deletion as described above.
8. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
