Finland Erects Huge Fence Along Russia Border — Here’s Why
Finland has completed a 120-mile (193-kilometre) extension of its border fence with Russia, citing concerns over Moscow’s alleged use of migrants as part of hybrid warfare tactics. Finnish Interior Minister Mari Rantanen unveiled the expanded barrier near the Nuijamaa border crossing in southeastern Finland, amid continued tensions between the two countries. Finland closed its 1,340-kilometre land border with Russia in December 2023 after more than 1,300 migrants arrived at the frontier without visas.
